The old saying, “A picture is worth 1,000 words,” certainly applies to hotel websites.  But in this case, a picture is worth thousands of dollars in revenue!

Take a look at the photo below, taken from a hotel website.

While this hotel may be very well-maintained, one would not assume that from the photo used to advertise the guest rooms.  The photo of the bed showing a rumpled skirt, poorly made bed, and less than attractive scarf give the impression that the room is haphazard.  For most viewers, this would lead to other questions in the potential guests’ minds regarding the quality and cleanliness of the property.

By contrast, the photo below from a similar hotel room suggests that the room is immaculate.  The pristine look of the bedding indicates that every detail of the guest room has been carefully considered, cared-for and maintained.

If you were booking a reservation, which room would you choose?

A suggestion to hotel owners:  before posting any photos of your property, look carefully at the details.  If there are things that need to be corrected, make the corrections and re-take the photos.  Also, when you have invested thousands of dollars in updating or renovating your property, be sure to have it re-photographed as soon as the renovation is complete and replace the photos on your website.  Good photos on your website are the best advertising money you will ever spend!
